TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The following terminology applies to these Terms and Conditions, Privacy Statement: ‘Client’, ‘You’ and ‘Your’ refers to you, the person accessing this website and accepting the Company’s terms and conditions. ‘The Company’, ‘Ourselves’, ‘We’ and ‘Us’, refer to A to Z Proofreading.
By agreeing to our quotation and continuing to work with us the client accepts the following terms and conditions unless otherwise stipulated in writing.
Conditions for Payment
Payment must be made in full before commencement of services unless otherwise agreed in writing. All fees are payable by bank transfer, credit card, Transferwise or by Paypal. All work produced by A to Z Proofreading remains our property until paid for in full. Payments that remain outstanding by the due date will incur late payment interest at the rate of 2% above the prevailing Bank of England’s base rate on the outstanding balance until such time as the balance is paid in full. We will exercise our statutory right to claim interest and compensation for debt recovery costs under the Late Payment legislation if we are not paid on time. For invoices that state 'due immediately', payment will considered late 7 days after the invoice has been sent, and interest charges will apply from this date.
The completed work will be delivered on or before the date agreed, for the agreed fee, which will be based on the description of the work required supplied by the client. If, however, upon receipt of the item to be worked on or at an early stage it becomes apparent that significantly more work is required than had been anticipated at the quotation stage, we may renegotiate the fee and/or the deadline. For example, if the sample provided by the client does not reflect the overall quality of the file. This also applies if the documents or materials needed are received by the company later than agreed. Similarly, if, during the term of the company’s work, additional tasks are requested by the client, we may renegotiate the fee and/or the deadline.
Any content created by the company as part of the editing/proofreading process will become the copyright of the client, unless otherwise agreed. Suggested edits are supplied as tracked changes and the client may accept or reject any changes made in the file. We do not provide justifications for all our edits.
Cancellation/Amendment of Scheduled Work
If the client cancels the work or changes the schedule within 48 hours of the original schedule’s due start date/time the company reserves the right to charge for all or part of the fee.
We can terminate a contract at any time and for any reason, including but not limited to: document is unintelligible, document is not in English, non-payment of fees due, aggressive or abusive behaviour towards our staff.
In the case of illness or sudden unforeseen unavailability of the proofreader/editor responsible for a Contract for Services, the company will notify the Client as soon as reasonably practicable and re-allocate the matter to another proofreader/editor within 24 hours. We will use our best endeavours to ensure that the agreed deadline is maintained; however, in the event that the deadline cannot be met in such circumstances, an extended deadline will be agreed upon by the parties. Such agreed extension will not affect the agreed fee payable.
Refunds
We are committed to the provision of high-quality editing and proofreading services, based on the order details. If the client has paid, and, for any reason, is not satisfied with the work completed by the company, the client agrees to contact the company by email within ten business days of receiving the work, with a detailed written explanation of dissatisfaction. Once this explanation has been received, the client agrees to provide the company with a reasonable amendment period, in order for the company to make the necessary changes and submit a second draft to the client. Please note that the second edit is solely to resolve a specific complaint and is not a full re-editing service. Refunds or partial refunds will only be given in exceptional circumstances and are at our sole discretion.
Storage of Work/Privacy
The work will be kept confidential and not made known to anyone other than the client without prior written permission.
Unless otherwise agreed, files will be kept for a maximum of six years. If the client would like the files deleted from all systems at an earlier date, please advise us in writing and further measures can be taken. While working on files GDPR compliant password-protected cloud-based back-up storage (primarily Dropbox) is used. We do not pass work or client details to third parties.
Liability/Responsibility
We will do our utmost to ensure all files are correct and free of errors; however, we can offer no guarantee of this. We cannot guarantee that using our proofreading service will result in improved marks/grades. We cannot be held responsible for direct, indirect, special or consequential losses or costs incurred by any errors remaining in your work, be they factual or grammatical. The final responsibility for errors remains with you.
It is the client's responsibility to ensure that their university/college/employer/academic institution allows the use of the services of a professional proofreader. Some universities prohibit the use of a professional proofreading service or have very strict guidelines relating to this. It is the client's responsibility, where applicable, to ensure that they comply with all rules and requirements relating to using a professional proofreader (e.g., declaring the use of a proofreader on submitted work).
In the event that you ask us to substantially change the content of your work, beyond what we consider to be ethical or reasonable we reserve the right to refuse to do so.
Avoiding plagiarism remains your responsibility at all times. We do not check your document for potential plagiarism issues.
Jurisdiction
The laws of England and Wales govern these terms and conditions. By accessing this website and using our services you consent to these terms and conditions and to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts in all disputes arising between you and the company.
